Marie-Soleil Cloutier, PhD, is a health geographer and professor of urban studies at Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS). She is the director of the Pedestrian and Urban Space Laboratory (LAPS), where her research interests include, among others, the impact of the built environment on pedestrian road safety and road risk perception (especially for children and older adults). She has been working for more than 10 years with partners from all disciplines and levels (municipal, provincial and associative) across Canada to improve our practices in the prevention of road injuries. She is also Past-President of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals (CARSP) and a member of the Road Safety Expertise group of the Association Québécoise du Transport et des Routes (AQTR). On a personal note, she tends to walk or bike and take pictures of new and different street lay-outs in every city she visits!
