Study designs in traffic injury prevention: Pitfalls in design and interpretation and ways to help overcome them 20/04/2018 9:00 am - 12:00 pm This interactive workshop will use three safety topics to examine three study design issues. The three topics are bike route designs, helmets, and traffic circles. The study design issues are how to control for “exposure” and “risk taking behaviour” when studying which route designs are safest, whether studying injury odds given a crash will give you the same results as studying injury risk given cycling, and the potential for confounding in studying interventions in after vs. before “quasi-experiments”. Workshop led by Kay Teschke, Professor Emeritus at UBC and on of Canada’s leading thinkers on the interaction between humans, their behaviour, the laws they create, their need for transportation and the infrastructure they build. | ![]() ![]() |
